McDermott Library Celebrates Outstanding Service
Each year, the McDermott Library celebrates outstanding service with an event each May. Eligible library employees are nominated by faculty, students, and staff members who have demonstrated outstanding service. The Ethyl Ward McLemore awardees are selected from those nominated by a committee of past winners and new employees. Last week, the Library celebrated the 31st awarding at a brunch event.
This celebration began in 1989 after Ethyl Ward McLemore and her husband Robert created an endowment to celebrate library service. To date, approximately 71 employees have been honored. The award includes a sizeable check and a 14K gold lapel pin with the image of the McDermott Library. Ethyl was one of the first female geophysicists in the region and felt strongly about the level of service provided. The endowment enables the library to celebrate its outstanding service to the campus and community.
Three members of the library staff were selected for the 2022 award.
- Megan Del Mar, the Access Services Manager, is responsible for all checkout services, library copy center operations, multimedia services, and stacks maintenance.
- Marna Morland, the Special Formats Metadata Librarian, is responsible for the cataloging and processing of all US federal documents received from the Government Printing Office.
- Marcos Ortega, a Library Systems Support Specialist, is responsible for hardware and software support for the library.
All three awardees were honored for their enthusiasm, expertise, dedication, and support to the campus.
