Library Renovations Starting in July
Over the next year, McDermott Library is updating some of our study areas to meet the needs of our students, staff, and faculty.
Beginning in July, a major portion of the 3rd level will be refreshed with new seating. The seating arrangement was selected to encourage reading and quiet/silent study. Wiring for the seating will be delayed until late fall but will ultimately provide plugs for electrical devises. The section of the 3rd floor will include an electronic screen to market events and collection information.
Six newly-equipped and furnished student study rooms (Pecan-MC2.514, Friendship-MC2.530, Austin MC3.232, Chili MC3.701, Tejas-MC3.704, Rio Grande-MC3.706) will be available by October. These study rooms are being equipped with new technology and will provide group project capabilities within each room. The rooms could also be used to practice presentations in front of small groups.
The Library’s Instruction facility on the south side of the second level will be updated with new equipment and screens during the spring semester of 2023. This phase of the project is behind schedule due to the ability to receive equipment.
The Library is also refreshing its Copy Center area during the summer to provide more visibility as well as a few renovations. The facility provides printing, copying, and scanning of materials.
A public address system for McDermott Library is being installed for safety and security concerns. The PA project should be completed by mid-August.
Finally, the informational screen on the second level of the library will be replaced soon.
The Library continues to empower its visitors by purchasing innovative seating configurations and superior educational technology to enhance the use of the facility.
