Building Updates Coming This Summer

McDermott Library is planning some changes that could impact your use of the building.

To accommodate our growing print collections, new shelving is being installed down the center section of the 4th level in June. The study tables will be relocated to the atrium section of the 1st floor to provide additional group study seating. This seating will provide a new area specified as quiet to moderate noise.

Secondly, new single carrels will be installed in late summer/early fall to facilitate more quiet study areas on the main floor of the library. Once the seating and electrical wiring is installed, the main portion of the 2nd floor will be designated as quiet study.

About 20 group study rooms are available and are designated as moderate noise. The lobby and 1st levels offer additional areas for group study.

Finally, the library will install new window film on the 4th level. The film is to protect the books from ‘sunburn’ which is being created on the spines due to the harsh summer sun. This window film project should also lower the higher temperatures in some of the warmer parts of the floor.

We hope that these upgrades will enhance the study environment in the library.
