Ye Olde Book Club-The Forgotten Botanist, by Wynne Brown: 3:00 pm-4:30 pm
Join us for our inaugural book club meeting in Special Collections and Archives. Our first selection is The Forgotten Botanist: Sara Plummer Lemmon’s Life of Science and Art by Wynne L. Brown. This biography tells the story of Sara Plummer Lemmon, a 19th-century botanist and botanical illustrator whose scientific and artistic contributions were long overlooked. The book explores her work in plant discovery, her collaborations, and the challenges she faced as a woman in science, highlighting the close relationship between botany, art, and exploration in the Victorian era.
We’ll discuss the book from 3–4 pm, followed by a visit to the Reading Room from 4–430 pm to view related materials from our collections. Didn’t get a chance to read the book? You’re still welcome to join us during the second half to see what we have on display. Open to students, staff, and faculty.
